O is for Odd Man Out

I have this great character in my book who started out as very secondary. In fact, he almost got cut. But in golf, you need a foursome. So he needed to stay.

He's kind of a nerd, and he's definitely the odd man out. But you know what? He rocks the book. And I'm so glad I didn't cut him.

I think I read somewhere that JK Rowling almost killed Arthur Weasley during book five. Ack! I LOVE Arthur Weasley. Arthur dying would have changed the last three books.

Anyone have a character who almost bit the bullet, but ended up kicking butt?

Oh man, I definitely would have missed Mr. Weasley!!

I haven't written a character I'm glad I didn't kill. I'm usually pretty happy to kill off whoever :)

But I sure am bummed about who did die in Book 5! The only character in the whole series whose death was absolutely necessary was the one in Book 6...because obvs that had to happen or book 7 would've been way too easy for Harry and totally boring, lol.

So far I haven't written books that need character deaths so happily I don't have to deal with that!

Hm... actually, no! My characters tend to appear and make their presence even larger as time goes on!

I had a character that bit it in the first drafts of my WIP, but I resurrected him due to some peer pressure. Turns out him alive brings a whole new level to the story.
