I started thinking...do we have anything like that in this area? I haven't heard of anything. Or least I haven't been invited. (LOL) And there are a lot of kidlit people near me. Hmmm. What's stopping me from coordinating something. Um. Nothing?
So I guess next step would be...is anyone interested? If I were to pick a night, reserve a space, and put out an invitation...would anyone show up? Please comment if you'd be interested in a Kidlit Drink Night somewhere west of Boston (I'm talking near Concord or Lowell). If enough people are interested, I'll try to pull something together...nothing fancy, mind you...just a chance to get together with like-minded folks and try to beat the winter doldrums. Please feel free to tweet this! I probably won't do anything unless I have a good core of people interested.
Maybe February?
UPDATE: The response has been very positive so far--there are at least 5 or 6 interested, and it's only been two hours since I posted. So I think it's fair to say it's a go. I'm going to use the twitter hash tag #centralmasskidlitwriters and hopefully get the word out that way. I'm aiming for Tuesday, February 15 (before school break) but I need some suggestions for locations. I might need to make some calls. :) I'm thinking it's going to be somewhere in Westford or Acton. Any ideas?
UPDATE #2: Scheduled!
When: Tuesday, February 15, 2011 7 pm
Where: Westford Grille in Westford, MA
Join us for drinks (pie and/or dessert) and good company. Anyone interested in Children's books welcome--writers, illustrators, librarians, booksellers, publishing industry pros. Just RSVP to me by Monday, February 14 by noon so I can let the restaurant know how many to expect.
Hope to see many there! Thanks to everyone who chimed in today!

LOL Nicole! I bet it's warmer there, maybe we'll come your way!
*waves hands furiously* Count me in!
Oh, Ansha, you're in all right. Now how do we spread the word? Should we just pick a date and go with it? I guess it wouldn't be all bad if it was just us...
Kris--this is an awesome idea. I'm in.
There was a pie night in Newton (I think) last year, which I missed due to sudden lack of child care and hubby working late. But I heard from my crit partner that it was cool.
I would love to do this--before February break, (or after) if that is possible. I can round up a few "locals" and see when other people are available.
Awesome idea!!
Yay, Heather! Life is crazy at the moment, February seems so far away...I'm thinking maybe a Tuesday night. Maybe February 15? Or is that too close to Valentines Day? If not, it will have to be March 1...which wouldn't be bad...
I'm in! Pie Night is really fun (I've gone both times) but it doesn't happen very often. I would definitely crawl out of my hermit cave for a drink night. :-)
Hi Kris. Sounds like fun -- count me in! And thanks, Heather K., for spreading the word!
OK this is great! Thanks Heather and Martha and Anna! Why didn't I think of Pie Night?!?
Anyway, I'm thinking I need to get organized here. Maybe a twitter hashtag? Hmm... #centralmasskidlitwriters
Is it too long? Now I just have to remember to use it...
Sweet idea--love the concept.
Wish I lived near Boston! Sounds like a great idea. Be sure to take pictures and post them.
Can't tell you how excited I am that I live near Boston! Count me in!!!
MC--sad that you're not nearer...be there in spirit?
Trisha--so glad you're nearby! Yeah! This is going to be a great chance to get to know some new friends! Off to check out your blog...
