Party on the Blog!!

I'm going to milk this new agent high for as long as I can.

For a party, we need balloons:

And cake.

And now we need some food...

It's potluck, so please bring something.  My book is called THE SWEET SPOT, so let's make is something sweet.  It doesn't have to be dessert.
And lastly, we need some cool prizes...

1. A query critique by my awesome agent Vickie Motter
2. A critique on a first page (about 500 words) by me.
3. A critique on a first page (500 words) by my critique partner  Laura Pauling (she's an awesome critter!)
 4. A signed copy of WHO REALLY DISCOVERED AMERICA (one of my nonfiction books).

The rules:

1. Leave a recipe in the comments--something you like to eat (required), but it doesn't have to be hard. Stop and grab ice cream from the grocery if you don't bake or cook. ;)
2. Be a follower (required).

Extra points:

Tweet, blog, recommend a follower
IMPORTANT: please note these extras in a SEPARATE comment w/ a link to your blog/tweet.  I'll use random number generator, so all entries need to be in a separate comment box.
And check back to see the other recipes!  We're celebrating!

This party will run until Monday, March 14. Thanks for celebrating with me!

I don't really bake--but I love this recipe for potlucks. I often bring it to my office holiday party.

1 big jar of grape jelly (14 oz)
1 big container of ketchup (14 oz)
1 or 2 packages of kielbasa.

Mix the jelly and ketchup (I know it sounds weird, but trust me) in a crock pot. Add the kielbasa and set on low for three or four hours. The sauce will get nice and glazy and sweet. It's like a nice barbecue-y sweet sauce.

I promise you'll have people ask you what the sauce is and they won't believe it.

Enjoy! And thanks for coming to the party!

Congrats on your shiny new agent! I love to eat salsa mixed with cheddar cheese. Does that count? If you try it you might become addicted. Fair warning. Enjoy!

Congrats on the agenting! (I hopped over from Laura's blog.) Hmm..recipes...

Here's a simple one we call "German Pancakes" although I'm not sure if it's really German (or a pancake for that matter). But it is TASTY!

6 eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
2 T butter

Combine. Put 1 T butter in each of two pie pans and melt as oven preheats. Pour in pans. Bake at 450 F for 20 min. WILL PUFF UP. AND BE YUMMY.

Sprinkle with confectioners sugar to make pretty. :)

Oooh, we're gonna eat well at this party! Thanks to all my new followers! (and not so new!) Keep 'em coming!

Okay, for the non baker people out there. I suggest the Chiaredelli brownie mix from a box. THE best brownies anywhere. Esp. when you can buy them cheap because they've been damaged. I swear they taste even better!

Congrats Kris!

Congrats! I follow Laura and came over to join the party. Here's a link to my baklava recipe. It's for special occassions just like this one! :)

These all look great. Someone's going to have to make Carolyn's baklava for me. I might be able to handle Susan's pancakes, and I know I can Laura's boxed brownies. I just ate lunch, but I'm surprisingly hungry. :)

Boring hypoglycemic me is all about the low/no-processed sugar snacks so I like to eat yogurt parfait:

Fage Greek yogurt 0% (2 big spoonfuls)
small handful of seedless red grapes
a heaping spoonful of flaxseed meal
toasted shaved almonds

mmm...I kind of want one now

Congratulations! That's fantastic. I've never followed anyone through Blogger before since I use Google Reader, so this was a new experience. I have you in my Google Reader, too, though, so now you're double-followed. :-)

As for recipes, here's one for my grandmother's sourdough waffles. It's easy but long, so I'm just posting the link to it. I put it on Recipezaar/Food.com a few years ago for safe-keeping:

Eton Mess

Break up 6 large meringues into bitesized pieces
Whip a large carton of cream
Put on serving dish and cover with lots of raspberries, blueberries and strawberries
Sprinkle with icing sugar

Ok now I'm hungry.

I've also retweeted the contest but I don't know how to link to a single tweet, sorry, but I sent it'@' you so you can see it.

Anna Staniszewski said...

No need to enter me in the contest. I just stopped by to throw some confetti. :-) Yay!

Nice and simple: peppermint bark. YUM. I'd snack on it all the time if I could.

1 block of white chocolate (or a bag of white chocolate chips)
A handful of peppermints (the kind that look like candy canes)

Melt the chocolate. Crush the peppermints. Mix. Pour onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave in fridge for an hour until solid. Break it up into bits and enjoy *___*

All these comments are making me HUNGRY!

·2 cans (16 oz. each) sliced pears, drained

Directions:

·Prepare the gingerbread as directed on the package. Cool, then cut into ½-inch cubes.
·Pour milk into a large bowl. Add dry pudding mixes and cinnamon. Beat with a wire whisk for 2 minutes. Gently stir in 2 cups of Cool Whip.
·Layer gingerbread, pears, and pudding mixture into a serving bowl.

Mmmmm....chocolate mousse

Ingredients

11 1/2 ounces Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate Chips
2 cups heavy cream
1/4 cup coffee, hot
4 eggs, room temperature
2 tablespoons sugar
Directions

Whip the cream to form light peaks. Set aside in the refrigerator. Melt the chocolate chips in a large mixing bowl set over barely simmering water. Meanwhile, whip the eggs with the sugar until very fluffy and thick, about 10 minutes.

Stir the hot coffee into the melted chocolate chips. The mixture will start to thicken, so work quickly. Quickly stir in the beaten eggs, then fold in the whipped cream. Pour or spoon mixture into cups or bowls, and chill until firm, about 2 hours.

Kristine Asselin said...

I am seriously psyched about all these awesome recipes! Which one to try first...???

MTeacress said...

Woohoo, I am not too late for the party! (I saw it the other day, but had to run out the door)

I don't have a query ready, but I'd love to be entered for the other prizes. :)

Here's a yummy Mexican rice dish...

Ingredients:
1C rice
2C chicken (or veggie) broth
1TBLS butter
2 cloves minced garlic
Juice from 1 lime
2TBLS sugar
Cilantro (to taste)

Prepare rice according to directions, but with broth rather than water. Don't overcook, or it will get mushy when you stir in the rest of the ingredients.

This is excellent in an oversized tortilla with beans and/or shreddded beef or chicken, topped with pico de gayo, guacamole, and sour cream. :)

PS I'm adding this contest to my sidebar, plus I'll tweet it right now!

Thanks for doing this!!!

Here's mine for Southern BBQ:

Add all ingredients to the slow cooker. Cook on LOW 6-8 hours. Take pork out, shred it with a fork, and put back in for another hour to heat through. Great for sandwiches on buns.

Ingredients:
2-3 lb. pork tenderloin
1 can REGULAR coca-cola
1 bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce.

Off to tweet this now!

Ooh! Yay! So glad I found this contest!

I am a new follower.

I LOVE Break-n-Bake sugar cookies. I'm partial to the Pillsbury ones, so that's what I'll bring. That's my something sweet. (I generally don't make sweet things, I just buy them. LOL.)
