Reading Out Loud

I read out loud almost every day. I have a first-grader, and we read a lot. But, I don't usually read my own work out loud. I've meant to, but it's just so darn *weird* to read it out loud when there are other people around.

Today, home alone, I started reading my WIP. Specifically, the first two chapters. And, you know what? It's pretty good. I like it. I'd like to read the whole thing. LOL.

Wow. Who knew?

I love reading aloud! I find it really helps with pacing and flow.

I write picture books, so I try to read them aloud often. And yes, it feels odd, especially since we're remodeling our house and I have a construction crew here daily. LOL. (I know they think I"m crazy.)

That's great - when you've liked what you've written! You've worked hard.

Reading out loud is very important to me. I care a lot about the rhythm and cadence of a sentence so the words must be read aloud. I hear you about doing it in front of others though. That would be tough.

I'm afraid to read my WIP out loud! But I hear it's a great way to find if it all gels together or not.
Congrats on having a WIP that you can't stop reading!

You're right, reading out loud is a great way to get a sense of what you've written. Best of all is when you like reading what you're written. That's always a good sign! :)
